--> By being in the middle of the frame of the shot, we can see that this character straight away is the main character and holds a large importance in the plot. Moreover, by being in quite a contained, tight environment it not only illustrates the urban environment of the protagonist, a key convention in crime films, however, could also signify the emotional entrapment of the character and how he is pursued by numerous different people and establishments. By walking up the stairs, instead of down the stairs, it signifies that he is facing up to his threats and the dangers that await him, rather than running away from them and “running down the stairs”.

--> This courage and bravery is subsequently juxtaposed with the birds eye view shot of the protagonist which highlights the character's vulnerable side and insinuates to the audience that we are the eyes of the police looking down on Billy Burke. Despite not knowing the other characters in the film so far, we are led to believe that the protagonist's subtle arrogance and demeanour is to be challenged by another person. The audience, most likely aware of the codes and conventions of the crime genre, then come to the conclusion that the person to challenge this and challenge Billy Burke in general, is a policeman or woman.

--> This long to medium shot illustrates two men walking towards each other, these two characters being in the centre of the frame of the shot. By both being in the centre of the frame of the shot it demonstrates that both of these characters are integral to the film's plot and this will not be the only time that they will clash.

This medium to close up shot of Billy Burke flipping up into the air a stolen phone, establishes the fact that this phone is a very important item to the film and is not any random phone that he pickspockets. Moreover, as previously said, the fact that Billy Burke is in the centre of the frame demonstrates his importance. The medium shot, not showing his face, is used to highlight just how important the phone is, so that the audience are not distracted from this fact.
